15 billion clothing hangers are produced globally every year, most are discarded within 3 months. Only 15% are reused or recycled, resulting in 8 billion hangers destined for landfill every year.
53 million tonnes of landfill leaches toxins and greenhouse gases into our eco system in the UK. The UK alone exports 611,000 tonnes of waste overseas every year. There are 1.6 billion hangers in UK homes that will end in landfill. Every year 24,000 tonnes of hangers are added to the problem.
There are already 8 million tonnes of plastic in the ocean and every minute we dump one more truck load. We’re all looking to reduce the plastic problem and reducing our usage of single-use plastics.
At Clippie we used design, physics and material properties to make a waste intervention.
Our user-friendly durable design is anti-tangle, non-slip and won’t snap. The body will hold any combination of outfit or garment, with a removeable and storable trouser bar for crease free folding.
The design reduces industrial processes and costs, modifying industry and human behaviour at every stage of its lifecycle, regardless of its journey. This helps to save the environment.
We use eco-friendly recycled waste to make our hanger instead of new raw materials, eliminating the initial creation of waste, and a sustainable lifetime product. Clippie is fully recyclable.
Clippie is pretty smart, scientists say it’s not dense, that’s why it floats, and its materials can be easily recaptured in the waste plant and turned into another product. Creating a closed loop environmental solution.
We’ve got the design registration and patent for some really cool ideas that are unique worldwide.
An anti-tangle body and hook that displaces other hangers, guides the hanger onto the rail and stays there.
Enclosed clips to prevent tangles in the body, although flex to fit the thickness and cut of each individual garment.
Removeable trouser bar that stores on the hanger, for crease free folding of garments; no need to drag through and straighten.
We can all now make a conscious and informed decision to buy an eco-friendly hanger instead of buying hangers that break or cannot be recycled.
